Corona, California ¤ October 12, 2004 —The Main Street Brewery recently claimed two silver medals at the 2004 Great Beer Festival Competition, the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States today. The top three winners in the competition’s 67 beer-style categories were announced October 2 at the 23rd Annual Great American Beer Festival Awards Ceremony held at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado.
Main Street Brewery was recognized in the Belgian Wit beer-style category for its Katarina Wit. A light golden unfiltered wheat ale which is spiced with coriander, orange peel and a secret ingredient. It is then fermented with a Belgian yeast strain imparting a very unique flavor. Main Street Brewery was also recognized in the Belgian Abbey beer-style category for its Bishop Tipple ( secret ) Trippel. This golden beer brewed with a candy sugar and its Trappist yeast strain gives it a full body with a dry aftertaste. It packs a punch at 9% alcohol. Main Street Brewery is a 10-bbl brewpub within Lamppost Pizza restaurant located in Corona, CA, that’s serves up nine different beers at a time, rotating styles throughout the year. “I have the best job in the world and the awards are icing on the cake.” Says Bob Kluver, Brewer at Main Street Brewery.
The 2004 Great American Beer Festival Competition winners were selected by an international panel of brewing experts from an impressive field of 2,000 entries received from 380 U.S. breweries. More than 1,400 breweries were invited to compete. “The Great American Beer Festival is the premier judging event for American craft beer industry,” says Nancy Johnson, Festival Director. “ Being chosen a winner, no matter if gold, silver, or bronze is truly an accomplishment.”
